Face to Face- Interface
December 15, 2010 - April 29, 2011

"Face to Face, Interface" Is a survey exhibit of portraiture in the northeast with poets, painters and sculptors all showing their art at the Blue Heron Gallery in Wyalusing, PA. The show opens on Friday, Dec 17 with a (Face Off) portrait demo where the artists will be painting a lovely woman dressed in exotic belly dancers apparel, or a stately elderly gentleman. Come see the artists at work and learn the secrets and techniques from many accomplished painters. The poets read at 6 and the artists begin at 6:45. Brian Keeler and Tom Wise mark their second two-man show together with this exhibit at the Laura Craig Gallery in Scranton. Tom Wise accompanied Brian to Italy as Keeler led a group of former students from the York Academy of Arts on a cultural tour of Italy in September of 2009. Tom Wise has a new body of work based on the inspiration of that trip and Keeler has works painted on location then and during previous trips. Annual Open House

Visit the studio of Brian Keeler as he invites you in to see his recent work. See the beautiful landscapes of the area that Keeler is well-known for as well as still lifes, figurative works and portraits. Get an insight into the creative process as you view works in progress on the various easels upstairs and down. The hours for the weekend are Friday- Oct 8 from noon to 5. Saturday from 10 to 5 and Sunday from noon to 5. There are many arts, and dance activities in Wyalusing this weekend with the Festival on Main Street all day on Saturday- Make a weekend of it in the Endless Mountains of PA. The studio is located at 101 School Lane- one block off US 6 - turn at the light on Church St and go one block to School Lane.

The Pauly Friedman Gallery at Misericordia University in Dallas, PA will feature the work of Brian Keeler, of Wyalusing, PA in a major one-man-show this summer. The title of the show, "Vision of Rhythm" alludes to the artist's interest in creating and organizing patterns and intervals in the design of his paintings and to seek out these visual rhythms in the landscape and other works. Opening reception for the artist - Wednesday, July 21 from 6-8 to be followed with live jazz by The KEN PEPLOWSKI OCTET outside the gallery- Jazz in July Concert 8:00pm Wachovia Amphitheater- tickets are $15. . Closing Reception at Pauly Friedman Gallery

The current show of my recent paintings at The Pauly Friedman Gallery, on the Campus of Misercordia University, in Dallas PA is ending on Sept 24. The gallery is hosting a special closing reception on Thursday evening, September 23, from 5 to 8 p.m. I will be conducting a gallery talk at 6:30 p.m., which will include my own reflections on the painting process where I will relate anecdotal stories about the creation of these paintings. It will be a fun and informal evening with light refreshments. 18th Annual Suquehanna River Trip

At the mouth of the Towanda Creek- I Get by with a little help from a friend

The 18th Annual Artists and Musicians (and others) canoe/kayak trip on the Susquehanna River in Bradford County, PA between Ulster and Wyalusing will be on Saturday and Sunday, July 17th and 18th. We depart around noon from the bridge in Ulster, PA (just off US RTE 220) with a leisurely paddle down to the mouth of the Towanda Creek, one mile past the RTE 6 bridge. We camp there for the night and paint or play music around the campfire. Arrangements are made to leave instruments and other valuables nearby. The next day we take the long and beautiful paddle down to the Terrytown access point to finish. There is no cost, just bring your own boat and gear or save yourself the hassle and rent from Dave and Melody Buck at Endless Mountain Outfitters in Sugar Run, PA. Call them to reserve you stuff and arrange for delivery/pickup at 570-746-9140 or kayaks@ptd.net. Come for just either day or the weekend- either way it is lots of fun and on one of the most beautiful sections of river in the northeast! The distance is about 25 miles in all and the river is good for paddlers of all levels as it is mostly calm and easy flowing with some rapids.


When Life is Still

"When Life is Still" the still life exhibit featuring 13 regional artists, which originated at the Blue Heron Gallery, will reopen at the Laura Craig Gallery, 307 Linden in Scranton on First Friday, May 7 from 5 to 8 p.m. The exhibit was curated by Brian Keeler and features a full color catalog with an essay by Keeler. Italian Art Sojourn May 24, 2010 - June 3, 2010 Study Art in Italy this Spring with Brian Keeler. The ten-day workshop is the fifth such art instruction in Italy by Keeler and will feature figure painting instruction from a model on several mornings and landscape painting with work done plein aire in the beautiful Umbrian land each day. The workshop is focused on oil painting techniques (especially for the figure) and pastel or acrylic. The workshop is well suited for seasoned artists who wish to improve and gain new insights or for those new to painting. A free brochure is available. We stay at Acquaviva Agritourismo near the medieval town of Todi and the food is beyond description. This exhibit will feature large and mid-size pastel paintings of the landscapes of Pennsylvania and New York State. These works along with some figure and landscapes in oil will round out the show. Many of these pastels and oils were painted on location in the manner of plein-air impressionist artists, and others are studio pieces. There will also be few works inspired by his trips to Italy where he has conducted painting classes.

Brian Keeler has been a signature member of the Pastel Society of America for over 20 years and his work has received many awards during a career than spans 30 years.
